Tourists of diverse backgrounds flock to Hvar every year, and there are accommodation options for all, be it luxury hotels in Hvar Town, private accommodation in Zavala or backpacking with a tent. Camping in Croatia is very popular, from the humble tent to the latest Italian motorhome, and the island of Hvar has plenty of choice for campers.
Camp Vira in Hvar Town
As with the various hotels in Hvar Town, the investment by Suncani Hvar in Camp Vira has resulted in a top-quality accommodation, arguably the best on the whole Croatian coast. Situated 4km north of the town in the tranquil setting of Vira, this four-star camp's amenities include plots connected to water and electricity, a supermarket, cocktail bar, playground, free Internet, restaurant, diving school and organized entertainment for children and adults alike.
The focal point of the camp is its excellent beach, one of the nicest on Hvar. Its 200m stretch of small pebbles is suitable for children and nonswimmers. Lifeguards are also on hand. The camp has won numerous awards from industry analysts, including the Croatian Camping Union, FederCampeggio and the prestigious ADAC Campingplatz-Auszeichnung award in 2008.
Camp Jurjevac in Stari Grad
Stari Grad's auto camp, called Camp Jurjevac, is located behind the Old Town on the road to the new ferry terminal. It is 300m from the waterfront and located in a forest in a quiet part of the town, with a capacity for 600 guests. Internet access is available, and the nearest shop is 200m away.
Camp Holiday in Jelsa
Located in the forest close to Hotel Hvar in Jelsa, Camp Holiday is a popular campsite for backpackers and caravan owners alike. An additional attraction is the catamaran connection from Split, which means that it is the most accessible on the island by foot from the mainland. It is a pleasant five-minute walk from the catamaran. Jelsa's main beach, Mina, is next to the site. Internet access is available at reception.
Camp Grebišce in Jelsa
Those willing to walk a little farther or who are arriving by caravan from the challengingdrive from Sucuraj will find Camp Grebišce, approximately 1.5km from Jelsa. Facilities include a shop, fast food outlet, and a restaurant and bar. Accommodations come with or without electricity and running water, and there are some stone housing possibilities.
Camp Nudist in Vrboska (FKK)
Hvar has a long tradition of naturism, and still has several nudist beaches that dot the island. The picturesque village of Vrboska offers FKK Camp Nudist. The camp is about 1km away from the village, with a pleasant 200m-long beach. The beach is quite rocky but access to the sea is easy. Facilities include a restaurant, shop, gas station and various sporting activities.
Camp Mlaska in Sucuraj
At the other end of the island is the popular Camp Mlaska, 4km from the port of Sucuraj. For many arriving on the ferry from Drvenik, this is as far as they go on Hvar. The camp is in an idyllic spot on the northern coast. It offers facilities for caravans, and there are also bungalows available for hire. There is a restaurant at the camp, and one half of Mlaska is allocated for naturist campers.
Camp Paklina in Ivan Dolac
Those willing to brave the Pitve to Zavala tunnel have the option of camping at Camp Paklina in Ivan Dolac on the south side of Hvar. The family-run camp is next to the beach, which is child-friendly.
